The LNP has announced a new grants package to support businesses, in partnership with local councils and chambers of commerce, to bolster safety and reduce crime in their communities.
LNP Toowoomba North MP, Trevor Watts joined Toowoomba South MP and Shadow Treasurer David Janetzki along with Shadow Small and Family Business Minister Brent Mickelberg to announce Toowoomba businesses would be eligible to apply for the program, if the LNP is elected this month.
Mr Janetzki said the Secure Communities Partnership Program would fund safety measures to deter crime currently devastating small businesses.
“The LNP will restore safety where you live with the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future,” Mr Janetzki said.
“We know our small and family businesses are bearing the brunt of Labor’s soft on crime approach.
“Their insurance premiums are skyrocketing, and they’re constantly paying for repairs after business are ransacked.

LNP MP for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts said “Queenslanders have been held hostage by Labor’s Crime Crisis, but the LNP is committed to making our community safer with Adult Crime, Adult Time, gold standard early intervention and effective rehabilitation.
“Labor’s failures have seen crime skyrocket, with almost 300,000 Queenslanders victim to violations like car theft, break-ins and assaults, just last year,” Mr Watts said.
Shadow Small and Family Business Minister Brent Mickelberg said the grants for small businesses were part of the LNP’s Making Our Community Safer Plan.
“The LNP will give businesses a big boost to bolster safety and deter crime with funding for CCTV, lighting upgrades and alarms,” Mr Mickelberg said.
“The cost of crime is not only replacing what’s stolen, it’s also the thousands of dollars in repairs, the increased insurance price and the lost turnover while a business is closed.”
Toowoomba local businessman and cafe owner Suman Khatri welcomed the LNP’s support for small businesses.
“We are paying twice for these criminals – first to repair the damage, and then with increased premiums,” said Mr Khatri.
