Gold Coast theme parks: Media statement from LNP Leader Deb Frecklington

Wednesday, June 24, 2020

“It’s time the Palaszczuk Labor Government stepped up to protect Queensland’s iconic theme parks and the thousands of local jobs that depend on them.

“Theme parks will play a vital role in restarting the state’s economy by enticing tourists to holiday in Queensland.

“The Gold Coast’s theme parks are regionally significant and attract tourists to the Gold Coast.

“It would have a major impact on tourism jobs on the Gold Coast if Labor lets these theme parks go under.

“The Palaszczuk Government should act to secure the future of the Gold Coast’s theme parks.

“The Federal Government has done the heavy lifting supporting businesses through coronavirus with JobKeeper and billions of dollars in other stimulus.

“More than anything else, theme parks need visitors, so Labor needs to get the interstate borders open.

“Queenslanders are sick and tired of Labor’s petty politics and constant blame game.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government offered Virgin airlines $200 million when they didn’t need it – but they have left theme parks high and dry.

“Let’s remember Labor has no Budget and no economic plan to get Queensland working again.”
