Labor’s ramping record exposed – Toowoomba patients suffer after a decade of Labor failures

Shocking new analysis has revealed the full extent of the Queensland Health Crisis since the Labor Government came to power in 2015, with the key health metric of ambulance ramping exploding across regional hospitals.

The Queensland Health data has uncovered a catastrophic increase in ambulance ramping between January 2015 to June 2024.

In Toowoomba, ambulance ramping was just 3.2% when Labor came to office in 2015, but at the end of June 2024 it jumped to more than 41%.

Shadow Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Ros Bates said the major increases to ambulance ramping across Queensland was proof Labor had not properly planned or resourced our hospitals for population growth and demand.

“The State Labor Government has been in power for ten years and in that time ambulance ramping has sky-rocketed to levels we’ve never seen before,” Ms Bates said.

“After a decade of chaos and crisis, two Premiers and four Health Ministers, Labor has run out of ideas to fix their Queensland Health Crisis.

“Regional Queenslanders are sick of feeling like second class citizens.

“As a nurse and former hospital administrator, I know how stressful it is for our dedicated frontline staff who are working around the clock to keep the health system on the rails.

“Paramedics didn’t sign up to spend an entire shift at the end of the ramp, while other calls go unanswered.

“Queensland has the worst ambulance ramping rate of any state or territory.

“Under Labor, Queensland is the ramping capital of the country.

“When the LNP left office ambulance ramping in Queensland was 15% and now it’s nearly 45%.

“What has Labor been doing for the past ten years to plan for the future health needs of Queenslanders?”

LNP Deputy Leader and Kawana MP Jarrod Bleijie said Queenslanders have seen the horror stories and the fatal consequences ambulance ramping has caused over the past ten years and nothing will change unless the government changes next month.

“Only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future and that includes ensuring there are health services when you need them,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Our ailing health system is getting chronically worse under Labor and they don’t have solutions to fix it.

“Only the LNP has a plan to heal the Health Crisis and that starts with more resources, better triaging, releasing data in real-time and putting doctors and nurses back in charge to improve patient care.”
