On the sixth day of the 12 Days of Christmas Community Giving Campaign, LNP Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts lent a helping hand to the Civic Assist team to share the love with families in need this Christmas, through the 2018 Loads of Love Appeal.
Mr Watts said the Loads of Love Appeal collects and distributes non-perishable food items to help ease the festive season burden for families who are struggling to make ends meet.
“This year already, over 8,000kg of non-perishable food has been donated to the Loads of Love Appeal,” Mr Watts said.
“With over one week to go until Christmas, there’s plenty of time for people to get involved and show their support for families in need.”
Civic Assist Manager Matt Gregg said the Loads of Love Appeal was hoping to collect and distribute 20,000kg of non-perishable food donations across Southern Queensland this year.
“Since the appeal began in 2009, more than 48 tonnes of food and thousands of dollars in gift cards has been received by households doing it tough,” Matt said.
“Loads of Love is simple, easy and accessible to everyone.
“Loads of Love is a great way to activate your local neighbourhood, school or workplace to make a difference in your local community.
“All donations will be distributed in partnership with local community organisations so you know that every single item will go to where it is needed the most.
“We can’t do everything; but we can all do something, so grab a bag, get involved.”
Mr Watts commended the Loads of Love Appeal and all of the community and not-for-profit organisations across Toowoomba North for their ongoing work.
“Christmas can be a difficult time of year for so many people,” he said.
“It’s heart warming to see so many volunteers and organisations coming together to offer support to those doing it tough this Christmas.”
