Queensland Schools should be open now

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said today’s school’s announcement by the Palaszczuk Labor Government was a devastating blow to the Queensland economy.

“Queensland schools should be open now and to keep them shut until near the end of May is a major setback to Queensland parents, kids and teachers,” Ms Frecklington said.

“This health crisis is fast becoming a jobs crisis under Labor. Holding kids back from going to school is hurting them and hurting the economy. Getting kids back into school is the first step on our road to recovery.

“Labor’s holding Queensland back. We need a plan for our social and economic recovery. Pushing the reopening of schools out another three weeks isn’t a plan for recovery – it’s a Labour Day present for the teachers union that will cost more Queensland jobs.

“The LNP believes that the first step to re-starting the economy and protecting jobs is to re-open our schools. For Labor to keep delaying the reopening is shattering to our state’s confidence.

“The LNP believes Labor’s staged approach will create haves and have nots, will split families and leave some kids falling behind.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk is still refusing to release the health advice her decision to keep schools closed is based on.

“Parents should be able to send their kids to school if they want to.”
