Queensland has the worst unemployment rate in the nation according to today’s ABS figures – with even locked-down Victoria having a lower jobless rate.
LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said the dire Queensland result (7.7%) was further proof of the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s economic failure over five years.
Earlier today, Ms Frecklington announced that a future LNP Government would set an unemployment rate target of 5 per cent.
“Queensland has had the worst unemployment record in Australia for the last four years thanks to Labor,” Ms Frecklington said.
“Queensland is used to be being bottom of the unemployment table, but it is shocking that this state is still performing worse than Victoria where the economy is still in lockdown.
“These grim figures do not lie. There are now more than 209,000 Queenslanders out of work.
“Queensland has lost more than 50,000 jobs since February.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor cannot run the Queensland economy.
“Labor cannot provide the jobs and secure future that Queenslanders need.
“Labor have no plan and no Budget. They cannot be trusted with Queensland’s future.
“Only the LNP has plan to create 150,000 jobs and lead Queensland out of recession.
“The LNP’s plan will begin by giving Queensland drivers an immediate $300 rego rebate to kickstart our economy before Christmas.
“An LNP Government will build new roads, dams and bridges across Queensland to create new jobs and drive our economic recovery.
“The LNP will set a 5 per cent target. If you don’t have a target, like Labor, you don’t have focus and you simply aren’t working hard enough.
“The LNP’s target of 5 per cent will mean Queensland’s economy is growing and jobs are being created.
“This election is about who has a plan for jobs and recovery. These figures prove that Labor doesn’t.
“Only an LNP Government will get Queensland working again.”
