LNP TO GET BACK TO BASICS IN SCHOOLS
- The LNP’s education policy will focus on basic language, literacy and numeracy
- The LNP will deliver 1000 new teacher mentors and deliver 80 new paid internships in special education and high demand subject areas
- Only the LNP will invest in developing the education and training sector to ensure all Queenslanders can get ahead
A Tim Nicholls-led LNP Government will invest in our education sector to ensure all Queenslanders have the best start to life as part of its plan to Build a Better Queensland.
LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said the LNP’s education plan would empower local schools, grow the teaching workforce and lift school standards.
He said under the LNP schools would be empowered to deliver the best outcomes for students.
“An LNP Government is focused on ensuring all children receive the best start to education regardless of their background or where they live in Queensland,” Mr Nicholls said.
“Investing in education is an investment in the future of our children and grandchildren.
“That is why we will deliver 1000 new teacher mentors to ensure our hard-working teachers get the best possible start to their careers.
“The LNP will also deliver 80 new paid internships in special education and for high demand subject areas such as maths and science.
“We know that teaching excellence is the foundation to any future success in our education system.”
Mr Nicholls said the LNP would better support Queensland families by undertaking proper long-term planning of Queensland’s education system to lift education standards.
“The LNP believes future schools should be built according to need, not for political gain like we have seen under Annastacia Palaszczuk with her decision to pork-barrel Jackie Trad and Grace Grace’s electorates,” he said.
“To Build a Better Queensland we will diversify the economy and create jobs by growing the education and training sector.”
Shadow Education Minister Tracy Davis said the LNP would place a greater focus on teaching the foundation skills of language, literacy and numeracy.
She said it was important our teachers were equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to teach the subjects that would underpin the jobs of the future.
“We will get back to basics, with teachers focusing on teaching Queensland children the foundation skills of language, literacy and numeracy,” Ms Davis said.
“By focusing on the basics, Queensland children will have the best chance at excelling now and in their future endeavors.
“No doubt Labor will attack our education plan because they have nothing positive to add – when it comes to Annastacia Palaszczuk she relies solely on fear and smear.
“We will Build a Better Queensland by boosting education and training standards to ensure all Queenslanders have the best opportunity to get ahead.”
