Palaszczuk Government ships severely-injured patients from hospital beds to hotel beds
New Queensland Health whistleblower leaks have today exposed the Palaszczuk Labor Government has started secretly shipping severely-injured patients out of hospital beds into hotel rooms.
Years of poor planning under the Palaszczuk Labor Government means not enough hospital beds have been delivered for Queensland patients.
In Question Time today, the LNP Opposition uncovered the chaos and crisis of the Palaszczuk Labor Government, demanding Health Minister Shannon Fentiman explain why severely-injured patients were being shuffled out of hospital beds on the Gold Coast and into hotel beds, at the Sea World Nara Resort.
One whistleblower who broke his pelvis in a car accident was transferred from the Gold Coast University Hospital to Sea World Nara Resort, while recovering from his injuries, leaving him with a hotel bed that could not be height adjusted, and chairs unsuitable for someone with a broken hip.
Shadow Health Minister and registered nurse Ros Bates said it was unacceptable the Health Minister was comfortable with severely-injured Queensland patients who pay their taxes being dumped from hospital rooms to hotel rooms.
“Years of poor planning and the Palaszczuk Government’s failure to invest in our health system has created a health crisis that Queenslanders are now paying the price for,” Ms Bates said.
“Severely-injured patients are now pawns in the Palaszczuk Government’s cover-ups, as they’re desperately shuffled into hotel rooms to hide the true depths of the Queensland Health Crisis.
“The Palaszczuk Labor Government are privatising the health system by stealth. It is rank hypocrisy.
“Instead of fixing the health crisis, the new Health Minister and the Palaszczuk Labor Government are busy trying to cover-up their failures by secretly shipping severely-injured patients from hospital beds to hotel beds.
“We’re not just talking about instances of patients with minor injuries, these are severely-injured patients being dumped in hotel rooms without the specialist care they need.
“The Palaszczuk Labor Government should never have allowed Queensland Health to do this without ensuring facilities were fit for purpose.
“The Health Minister must explain why this is happening and how widespread this secret practice has become.
“Under the chaotic Palaszczuk Labor Government, Queenslanders can no longer rely on the health system to provide them with care in their hour of need.
“The Palaszczuk Labor Government’s legacy is record-high ramping, blowouts to specialist waitlists, blowouts to elective surgery wait times and emergency departments in crisis.
“We need to heal our health system with more resources, better triaging, releasing data-in-real-time and putting doctors and nurses back in charge to improve patient care.
“Queenslanders deserve better than the chaos and crisis of the Palaszczuk Labor Government.”
