The Crisafulli Government has delivered upgrades to the Toowoomba Sports Ground with more than $1 million in capital works upgrades now complete.
Toowoomba Sports Ground plays a vital role in the sporting life of the Darling Downs and South West region and is home to the Western Clydesdales Rugby League Football Club and the South West Queensland Thunder Football Club.
The Crisafulli Government budget outcomes, $32 million has been approved over four years to upgrade and maintain state-owned sport and recreation venues, including Toowoomba Sports Ground.
The improvements ensure Toowoomba Sports Ground remains a high-quality, future-ready venue capable of supporting rugby league, football and a range of community and regional events across the Darling Downs.
Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts said the upgrades strengthened Toowoomba’s position as a regional sporting hub.
“These upgrades include a major field of play renovation and a lighting uplift to 500 lux LED standard to support higher-capacity use and faster recovery between events,” Mr Watts said.
“This project reflects the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to strengthening regional sporting infrastructure.
“We’re investing in regional venues like Toowoomba Sports Ground to ensure communities have access to resilient, high-quality sporting facilities,” he said.
“The upgraded lighting and improved playing surface mean the venue can host more matches, more events and more opportunities for local athletes.
“As we look ahead to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, strong regional venues will play an increasingly important role in supporting athlete development and delivering lasting community benefits.”
