Come on Australia, let’s celebrate

COME ON AUSTRALIA, LET’S CELEBRATE

Australia Day, 26 January, is our largest annual community celebration giving all Australians the opportunity to celebrate our nation’s history, diversity and way of life.

This is a day for all Australians, no matter where our personal stories began. It is a day to reflect on being Australian and to celebrate our contemporary Australia and to recognise our history.

On Australia Day we celebrate all the things we love about Australia: land, sense of fair go, lifestyle, democracy, the freedoms we enjoy but particularly our people.

Australia Day is about acknowledging and celebrating the contribution that every Australian makes to our contemporary and dynamic nation. From our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – who have been here for more than 65,000 years – to those who have lived here for generations, and to those who have come from all corners of the globe to call our country home.

Whether you are celebrating at a community event or with family and friends or becoming an Australian citizen, Australia Day provides an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the proud histories and traditions that make Australia so special.

On our national day we can all share a sense of pride in being an Australian and it is a time to reflect on how lucky we are to be part of such an amazing and wonderful nation.
