Deputy Premier wants action on strikes

The Queensland Government called again today for the Federal Government to intervene to end the industrial disputation in the Bowen Basin coal mines.

Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said the week-long strike now underway did not simply involve the unions and the companies.

“These strikes impact upon every Queenslander. The Federal Workplace Minister cannot afford to ‘step away’ from this issue.

“As I made clear yesterday, intervention can only come from the Federal Government. The Queensland Government can have no direct role. I call on the Gillard Government to act now.”
