Labor must release secret gas royalty review

Saturday 25th January, 2020

The Palaszczuk Labor Government needs to release its $100,000 secret review into gas royalties and rule out any further tax hikes in the upcoming state budget.

LNP Deputy Leader and Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander said that Labor’s increased taxes were putting local jobs at risk.

“With the second highest unemployment rate in the nation, Queenslanders are right to be worried about jobs and job security,” Mr Mander said.

“Queensland’s oil and gas industry contributes $8 billion to the economy and supports almost 38,000 direct and indirect jobs.

“Billions are also spent in regional communities, supporting thousands of local businesses in the supply chain.

“The industry was blinded when the Trad-Palaszczuk Government increased royalties by 25%.

“Jackie Trad needs to release her $100,000 secret review and rule out any further tax hikes in the April budget.

“Jackie Trad has slugged taxpayers to outsource her job to a Labor mate.

“Taxpayers paid $100,000 for the review its theirs not Jackie Trad’s.

“Labor’s higher taxes and royalty uncertainty will cost investment and push jobs interstate or offshore.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jackie Trad have already ripped $3.5 billion from the Queensland economy with nine new or increased taxes.

“Only the LNP has an economic plan to create more local jobs and manage the economy for everyday Queenslanders.

“The LNP has already announced our no new taxes guarantee and long-term royalty certainty to attract more investment and create more local jobs.”
