Labor’s unemployment crisis hits Toowoomba

Unemployment figures released today reveal the economic damage the Palaszczuk Labor Government is inflicting on Toowoomba.

Regional ABS statistics showed 1700 locals lost their job in October with the unemployment rate hitting 4.7 per cent, a jump of 0.4 per cent on the previous month and the biggest increase in the state.

LNP Deputy Leader and Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander said 10,800 people in Toowoomba have lost their job over the past year.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk has delivered the highest unemployment rate in the nation and jobs in Toowoomba are being destroyed,” Mr Mander said.

“Unfortunately, these unemployment figures aren’t a surprise because Annastacia Palaszczuk is anti-dams, anti-regions and anti-jobs.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government stonewalled the New Acland mine expansion, which cost the region 150 local jobs.

“The closure of ice-cream manufacturer Weis is also a hammerblow to the community and a sign that Queensland under Labor isn’t an attractive place to run businesses and create jobs.

“Toowoomba has been hit with Labor’s nine new and increased taxes – taxes which are toxic for job creation.”

Mr Mander said the ABS statistics also showed Toowoomba’s youth unemployment rate had jumped 2.4 per cent to 14.8 per cent.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government is holding Queensland back,” Mr Mander said.

“We can’t waste another four years.

“After five years of Labor failure, it’s clear that only the LNP has a plan for Toowoomba.

“The LNP will create more jobs in Toowoomba by guaranteeing no new taxes under a Deb Frecklington LNP Government.”
