The LNP has committed to a boost in funding for DV Safe Phones, a group that provides individuals fleeing domestic and family violence with safe mobile phones.
Many women and children leaving unsafe homes aren’t able to take possessions including phones, or they fear their devices are being tracked and monitored by perpetrators.
DV Safe Phones provides phones to help these families start afresh and keep in touch with services and supporters.
Deputy Opposition Leader and MP for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie said the $1 million commitment was part of the LNP’s Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.
“The LNP’s commitment will allow DV Safe Phones to provide 10,000 phones to victims of domestic violence in Queensland,” Mr Bleijie said.
“This is practical support for some of our most vulnerable Queenslanders, helping them on the road to recovery from traumatic situations.
“DV Safe Phones will be able to train and build its inspiring network of volunteers who help these families with the LNP’s support,” said Mr Bleijie.
“Queenslanders should have a government that delivers the programs and services needed for the State’s future, supporting our communities.”
DV Safe Phones Founder Ashton Wood said the LNP’s commitment was a major boost, that would impact thousands of victims.
“We know that as many as 831,400 women in Queensland have experienced physical and or sexual violence.
“We need to give them practical support to help them leave these dangerous situations,” said Mr Wood.
Mr Bleijie said Queenslanders could vote for the DV Safe Phones funding and a government which worked for them, by voting LNP at this election.
“Our state needs a fresh start, and only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s future,” he said.
