LNP commits millions to M1 ‘Exit 45’ gridlock

Thursday, 30th July 2020

A future Frecklington LNP Government will invest 25 million dollars for new on and off-ramps on the M1, as part of improvement works to the Mirambeena Drive interchange (Exit 45).

LNP Deputy Leader Tim Mander made the announcement on the Gold Coast today with LNP Member for Coomera Michael Crandon who has been a strong advocate to secure funding for this much needed project.

“Today’s announcement is part of the LNP’s $1 billion SEQ Congestion Fund to create jobs and get Queensland moving,” Mr Mander said.

“The LNP has a plan to stimulate the economy, drag Queensland out of recession and create a decade of secure jobs.

“There are more than 200,000 Queenslanders out of work, so the LNP will get shovels in the ground on the northern Gold Coast as soon as possible.

“This project will create direct jobs in construction and give local businesses a boost by cutting congestion, helping them create even more jobs in the future.

“There are major new housing developments in the area at Ormeau, Kingsholme and Pimpama so this much needed upgrade will secure local jobs while busting congestion for local families.

“This is new money and the project is fully funded under the LNP’s SEQ Congestion Fund that will stimulate the economy and drag our economy out of recession.”

Mr Crandon said there is currently no on-ramp travelling northbound and no off-ramp travelling southbound and only the LNP will invest in upgrading this interchange.

“Every morning and every afternoon the delays on Exit 45 are unbelievably frustrating,” Mr Crandon said.

“These upgrades will take enormous pressure off local roads on the northern Gold Coast.

“A lot of heavy transport uses the existing Exit 45 and this new southbound offramp will improve productivity. “This funding will ensure people get to work sooner, to school sooner and home sooner and support local jobs.

“Only the LNP is committed to a job creating and congestion busting plan to get Queensland working again.”
