LNP plans incremental growth for Abbot Point
Development of terminals T0, T2 and T3 at Abbot Point would provide a huge increase in Queensland’s coal export capacity, Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney said today.
Mr Seeney told State Parliament current export capacity was around 200 million tonnes annually.
An additional 160 tonnes capacity would be added through the T0-T3 expansion at Abbot Point.
“We will be working hard to obtain the remaining approvals for the T0-T3 developments,” the Deputy Premier said.
“We will be discussing with industry what additional capacity is needed beyond that.
“A measured, incremental, staged approach to development at Abbot Point will provide a better growth solution for Bowen and Galilee Basin miners and the region’s communities.
“Our approach to expansion of infrastructure at Abbot Point is a more practical, more realistic, more sensible and more deliverable pla n than the unrealistic and undeliverable proposals from the former, failed Bligh Government.”
“The Newman Government will provide greater development certainty which takes into consideration the short and long-term needs of industry,” Mr Seeney said.
The Deputy Premier said the Port of Abbot Point was an important strategic asset for the state and its successful future expansion would play a key role in Queensland’s economic development.
