An LNP Government will create jobs and boost Queensland tourism by repealing Labor’s heartless Grey Nomad Tax.
Scrapping Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jackie Trad’s tax on campervans will save Queensland buyers an average of $2,300.
LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said ditching the tax would save seniors money, encourage more drive tourism in Queensland and support local manufacturing jobs.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jackie Trad ripped $4 billion out of our economy with nine new and increased taxes,” Ms Frecklington said.
“The Grey Nomad Tax was announced two days before the last election and it’s ripping millions of dollars off retirees every year.
“The LNP supports lower taxes to support jobs, so this tax will be axed in the LNP’s first Budget.
“Queenslanders who have worked hard for their whole lives should not be slugged with extra taxes by Labor.
“I want seniors to buy more Queensland-made campervans and explore our great state.
“This plan means more jobs for Queensland campervan manufacturers and more money for businesses that depend on regional tourism.
“Only the LNP has a plan to stimulate the economy, create a decade of secure jobs and lead Queensland out of recession.”
Ms Frecklington visited a campervan manufacturer in Redcliffe with local LNP candidate Kerri-Anne Dooley and Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander to make the announcement today.
“The Grey Nomad Tax is one of Labor’s meanest taxes and I’m delighted that the LNP will ditch it within 100 days,” Ms Dooley said.
“It’s not right to make seniors pay thousands of dollars in extra taxes just because they want to travel our state and enjoy their retirement.”
“Scrapping this tax will be good news for seniors, good for campervan businesses and good for the tourism industry,” Mr Mander said.
“Taxes destroy jobs, which is why the tax-addicted Palaszczuk Labor Government has delivered the worst unemployment rate in Australia for the last four years.
“Only a Deb Frecklington LNP Government will scrap the Grey Nomad Tax and get Queensland working again.”
Labor’s Grey Nomad Tax increased the transfer duty on new and second-hand campervans above $100,000.
With the average cost of a new motorhome or campervan being $140,000, the LNP’s policy will save buyers of new vehicles an average of $2800 in tax per sale. The saving on a second-hand motorhome sold for $110,000 would be $2,200
