Media Statement: Labor’s proposed Virgin deal

Friday 25 September, 2020

The LNP will not tear up signed contracts, but in relation to the unsigned $200m tax-payer handout for Virgin proposed by the Palaszczuk Labor Government, LNP Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander today stated:

‘Labor needs to come clean on the taxpayer-funded assistance they provided to Virgin.

‘If it’s a good deal, they should be up-front with Queenslanders.

‘Labor’s taxpayer-funded deal has led to hundreds of sacked Queensland workers and cut regional routes.

‘Annastacia Palaszczuk’s Treasurer cowardly hides behind an excuse of commercial confidentiality.

‘An LNP Government will lift the veil on Labor’s secret deal and disclose details to the public.

‘The LNP has consistently said the $200 million should have been invested in a tourism marketing and infrastructure fund for Queensland.

‘That’s been vindicated by Virgin’s decision to cut jobs and cut routes.

‘If the deal hasn’t already been done by Labor, it won’t be done.

‘The $200 million will be invested in the tourism marketing and infrastructure fund.’
