Mixed messages galore on Labor’s border closure

Tuesday, 16 June 2020

Queenslanders are still in the dark over how long Annastacia Palaszczuk will keep the interstate border shut after the Premier failed to commit to a date in Parliament today.

Instead, the Premier told Parliament the border would remain closed “while there is active transmission”.

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said the Premier’s latest mixed message cast doubt on a July reopening as outlined in Labor’s roadmap.

“Businesses need clarity and certainty on when Queensland will open its border to the rest of Australia, Ms Frecklington said.

“The chaos and confusion caused by the Palaszczuk Labor Government is closing businesses and costing jobs.

“Today Annastacia Palaszczuk seems to have put an August or September re-opening right back on the table.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk is clearly in denial about how much financial agony Queensland businesses are going through every day the border remains closed.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk is out of touch and deaf to the concerns of businesses.

“Queensland is a tourist state and tourists mean local jobs – it’s as simple as that.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk keeps moving the goal posts and has turned this health crisis into an economic crisis.

“The first step in getting Queensland working again and restarting the economy is to re-open the interstate border.”
