On the eighth day of Christmas, Trevor Watts MP helps bring buckets of joy to local families

On the eighth day of the 12 Days of Christmas Community Giving Campaign, LNP Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts pitched in to help staff and volunteers at Yellow Bridge fill yellow buckets with special Christmas food and gifts for the 2018 Yellow Bucket Christmas Appeal.

Mr Watts said the YellowBridge Yellow Bucket Christmas Appeal collects and distributes special non-perishable Christmas food items to individuals and families in need.

YellowBridge are aiming to fill and distribute 300 buckets for this year’s Yellow Bucket Appeal

“The YellowBridge Yellow Bucket Appeal has been operating for four years, with 600 buckets distributed to families during the first three years of the appeal,” Mr Watts said.

“The YellowBridge team have already filled 265 yellow buckets this year – with one week until Christmas, they still need to fill 35 yellow buckets to reach their 300 bucket target.”

YellowBridge Queensland Chief Executive Officer Penny Hamilton said the Yellow Bucket Appeal provides families in need with buckets of edible joy for Christmas.

“Christmas is meant to be a special time of the year filled with love and happiness,” Penny said.

“Sadly, this is not the case for some people who will spend Christmas alone or are unable to afford extra special food to make it a memorable day for them and their family.

“The emphasis on Christmas food that is gourmet or special rather than staple food items, which are covered so well by other Christmas appeal initiatives in the region.”
