Palaszczuk’s AFL clanger dashes hope and optimism

LNP Shadow Minister for Sport John-Paul Langbroek has slammed the Palaszczuk Labor Government for sending mixed messages to footy clubs and sports fans ahead of this weekend’s AFL competition restart.

“This is a massive clanger from Annastacia Palaszczuk,” Mr Langbroek said.

“Queensland has become a national sporting embarrassment thanks to Annastacia Palaszczuk.

“We saw it with the NRL and now we are seeing it with the AFL as well.

“Labor have sent mixed messages about crowd approvals in a cruel hoax on footy fans.

“Yesterday Annastacia Palaszczuk ruled out any crowds this weekend at the Gabba and Metricon Stadium without even seeing the proposals.

“It’s a sad day when Queensland is beaten to the punch by South Australia.

“The fact 30,000 protestors were allowed to pack into the Brisbane CBD last weekend and not observe social distancing and yet 1000 fans aren’t allowed to watch their favourite footy team while observing social distancing makes a mockery of Annastacia Palaszczuk’s roadmap.

“Queenslanders want common sense rules applied in the same way, otherwise the whole thing becomes a farce.

“As Gold Coast Suns Chairman Tony Cochrane said – ‘it is unclear as mud.’

“The hopes of footy fans in Queensland have been kicked out of bounds on the full, just when there was some hope and optimism ahead of the Round 2 restart.”
