POLICE STATS CONFIRM TOOWOOMBA CRIME IS OUT OF CONTROL UNDER LABOR

- Robberies, car theft, assaults all soaring under Annastacia Palaszczuk
- Only the LNP will bring back tougher laws and the resources our police need to keep families safe
New Queensland police statistics confirm that crime in Toowoomba is out of control under the Palaszczuk Labor Government.
LNP Shadow Police Minister Tim Mander said reported crime across Queensland is up a disturbing nine per cent and more and more Queenslanders were fearful of walking the streets and afraid in their homes.
“It’s a diabolical catch-22 that can be laid firmly at the feet of this soft-on-crime Annastacia Palaszczuk-led Labor Government,” Mr Mander said.
The 2016-17 QPS Annual Statistical Review shows that compared to the previous financial year in the Darling Downs Police District:
- Robbery is up 27.3 per cent
- Car theft and hooning (unlawful use of a motor vehicle) is up 37.1 per cent
- Fraud is up 17.3% percent
- Unlawful entry is up 3.7 per cent
- Serious Assault is up 9.9 per cent
“As a result of the strong laws and additional resources provided by the LNP Government in late 2013, crime rates across the state dramatically dropped,” Mr Mander said.
“Across Queensland in 2014, this meant that assaults fell by 3.7 per cent, robbery was down by 24.8 per cent, unlawful entry plummeted by 17.4 per cent and car theft dived by 19.4 per cent. In all, 696 fewer Queenslanders were assaulted, 434 fewer Queenslanders were robbed, 6960 fewer homes were broken into and 2244 fewer cars were stolen.”
In a little under three years, Labor’s softly, softly, slap-on-the-wrist policies have trashed this record and sent crime through the roof.
“Every day I hear another story from another fed up, or frightened resident fearful of having their car stolen, their house broken into or, worse still, being bashed in their own home by an intruder”.
“This is not the town I moved to nearly thirty years ago to raise my family. Residents deserve better than to live in fear in their own homes because of Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor’s soft-on-crime approach.
“I hear all the time from local police on the beat that they’re stretched for resources, unsupported and at their wits’ end.
“Only the LNP will bring back tougher laws and the resources our police need to keep families safe.”
