QLD Schools’ Planning Commission given green light
The Newman Government is moving the State’s education system forward, with cabinet approving the framework for the establishment of the Queensland Schools’ Planning Commission.
Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek said the Commission would streamline and coordinate the planning and future needs of schools in Queensland.
“This is another commitment the Newman Government has delivered as part of our First 100 Days Action Plan,” Mr Langbroek said.
“We are committed to ensuring that Queensland students have the best education experience possible and this Commission will take us a step closer to achieving that goal.”
Minister Langbroek said the Commission would analyse the current planning and financial systems of schools and provide recommendations on how to increase their efficiency and help cut red tape.
He said the Commission would also look at population trends and school capacity to help guide future plan ning.
“From this analysis, the Commission will produce a Queensland schools infrastructure demand map which will help us identify the schools that are most in need of funding and support,” he said.
“This is about getting the basics right when it comes to planning for the future of our schools and ensuring that they are operating efficiently to deliver the best for Queensland’s children.”
Minister Langbroek said the Commission’s membership would include representatives from the schooling sectors, key government agencies and local government.
“Former school teacher and Education Minister Bob Quinn has been appointed as chair of the Commission and will be joined by representatives from school P&F groups and the planning sector,” he said.
“Through the collaboration of all three school sectors and other key groups, these members will provide advice to the Government on the future planning and funding for schools across Queensland.”
