TIME FOR ACTION ON ICE TO HELP FAMILIES AND CHILDREN

Liberal National Party Leader Deb Frecklington said the latest Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report was more evidence the scourge of ice was having an appalling impact.

“The shocking toll on families and vulnerable kids across Queensland is why we called on the government to start doing more to help,” Ms Frecklington said.

“The report is heartbreaking. It’s why I have been pushing this important issue and why the LNP wants to see more support and outcomes for families gripped by ice.

“How many more reports or tragedies will it take before we see action from the Palaszczuk Government?

“We’ve known about these shocking statistics for a while now. It’s time we start to see the numbers of ice-addicted parents coming down.

“This drug doesn’t discriminate, it decimates.

“The LNP has held community ICE forums in Bundaberg, Nambour, Toowoomba and Townsville and the message is clear – this drug is hideous and we are in grave danger of losing a whole generation to it.

“Ice in Queensland has got to go. Stopping this scourge and building stronger, healthier and happier communities is my commitment to Queensland as LNP leader.

“The LNP took a comprehensive ICE strategy to the last election. We want to work with the community to make sure our plan addresses this complex and difficult issue.”

The LNP’s comprehensive plan included four new drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres around the state, a boosted funding program for prevention services such as Lives Well Lived to target high-risk demographics as well as increased crime prevention and awareness, stronger enforcement and shutting down organised crime networks that supply drugs to our kids.
