Toowoomba to receive dedicated ICE rehabilitation centre

TOOWOOMBA TO RECEIVE DEDICATED ICE REHABILITATION CENTRE
  • Toowoomba and the Darling Downs to receive dedicated drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre
  • This dedicated multi-bed treatment facility will help Toowoomba and Darling Downs residents kick the drug habit, provide ongoing support through counselling and programs and help them integrate back into society
  • Labor still has no plan to tackle ICE in our communities or to provide the services Queenslanders need to beat drug addiction

A Tim Nicholls-led LNP Government will establish a dedicated multi-bed drug and alcohol treatment centre in Toowoomba as part of its comprehensive plan to provide safe and liveable communities.

LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said the dedicated treatment facility was part of a comprehensive $52.21 million action plan to take ICE off our streets.

“Toowoomba will be one of the four regional centres that will receive a dedicated state-of- the-art, multi-bed treatment facility to help people kick their drug and alcohol habits and provide them with ongoing support,” Mr

Nicholls said.

“This drug doesn’t discriminate and has devastating impacts on users, their families and friends and the community.

“Labor still has no plan to tackle ICE in our communities or to provide the services Queenslanders need to beat drug addiction.

“This is typical of a do-nothing government with a softly, softly approach that is failing Queenslanders.”

Mr Nicholls said there was widespread evidence of escalating ICE use and a clear need for a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach.

“Rather than the endless reviews and talkfests such as those we have seen under Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor, strong action is needed now,” he said.

“This dedicated multi-bed treatment facility will help Toowoomba and Darling Downs residents kick the drug habit, provide ongoing support through counselling and programs and help them integrate back into society.

“Only the LNP has a comprehensive action plan to tackle the scourge of ICE in communities across the state, including in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

“Our comprehensive ICE strategy forms part of the LNP’s plan to Build a Better Queensland.”
