Watts On a New Backbench Committee Set To TackleCrime Head On

Member for Toowoomba North, Trevor Watts is pleased to announce that he has accepted a position on the Police and Community Safety Backbench Committee.

The committee, made up of LNP members from across the state, will meet regularly with Minister for Police and Community Safety, Jack Dempsey to discuss crime prevention and community safety issues affecting communities.

Mr Watts said it was an honour to be involved in the committee, which met for the first time on Thursday, July 12.

“Police and emergency services play a vital role in our community and I’m looking forward to giving Toowoomba North a voice on the committee,” Mr Watts said.

“I am eager to support Mr Dempsey as he tackles a wide range of policing and community safety concerns head on.”

Mr Dempsey said he was seeking input from every region across the state on policing, emergency services and community safety issues in their area.

“Getting tough on crime with the introduction of harsher penalties is a priority of the Newman Government,” Mr Dempsey said.

“The committee will be focused on delivering the LNP’s vision for revitalising frontline policing and providing a safer Queensland for everyone.

“I look forward to receiving input from Mr Watts about the police and community safety issues which are affecting the Toowoomba North region.”

The committee is expected to meet again in September.
